All:
I had to revamp my entire assignment. Using the wonderful feedback provided in Monday's chat - and Prof. Rice gently easing me into what's expected - I used an "old friend" to start my project. This may seem odd - and that's the point. Instead of finding an artifact, I went with what I already knew and adapted it for looking forward into the future. You'll likely have to open it somewhere else (I'm not familiar enough with Blogger.com to add a file). Feedback is welcome - I'm sure I need it. I will be adding philosophical citations once I nail this down. This is definitely a work in progress for me.

Lancia, Your selected genre is so relatable to me -- ex-husband is retired Naval officer, current husband is disabled Army veteran, my second son is a Marine. In other words, we are a military family. I can appreciate your notion of clarity and I like the nuance you brought to the discussion -- the things that can both interfere with and add to clarity. I always enjoy the thoughts and ideas you bring to the discussions and this is no exception. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteInteresting aspect of the assignment. I definitely like your ideas and key concepts. As far as feedback goes I would maybe introduce the lenses, necessity, and meeting in the middle in the clarity paragraph somewhere or merge them with the examples you present so we can see how you mean to apply them. I think applying the rhetors is always difficult but an idea would to cite a quote from the key rhetors you're using after each paragraph of the A, B, and C? It would tie things in to the classical way of thinking too. I don't know just an idea. You have a very interesting perspective.
ReplyDeleteUseful to use a memo format, yes. Look for consistency in tone (you have contractions and some informal usage which seems out of place). Perhaps include Insert > Comment over the top of core concepts to help you explain which rhetors some of these thoughts come from. Ah, technical writing cells!
ReplyDeleteLancia - I'm not very familiar with this genre of writing, so I don't know how much help I'll be, but I'll try! I really like the questions you are asking/posing, but I'd like to hear some answers to them. As Mira suggested, I think tying in some examples and connecting the rhetors/scholars to these things would be really helpful.
ReplyDeleteAll of this is very useful! My format is very familiar to the military setting (Ha, Casey!), and I am working on including specific scholars for reference. Professor, I will go back and check my vernacular to insure it matches. However, I do intend to leave "technical writing cells" in there. It's a nice touch.
